Terms of Service

Crowcery · last updated 27 July 2026

Beta notice. Crowcery is currently in beta. The service is provided free of charge, without warranties, and may change or be discontinued at any time. Don't rely on it for anything important — for example, don't use it as your only copy of receipts you need for taxes or warranty claims. The OCR and parsing pipeline uses Google Cloud AI services; these services may change or be withdrawn, which may cause temporary parsing regressions. See the Privacy Policy for where your data is processed.

1. Who we are

The service is operated by Marton Hever ("we", "us") as an individual based in Nova Scotia, Canada. Contact: support@crowcery.com.

2. What the service does

Crowcery lets you upload photos of grocery receipts and returns structured data — store, date, line items, prices, categories, taxes, totals — extracted using automated OCR and large-language-model parsing. Accuracy is not guaranteed.

The service is an informational tool, not an advisor. The structured data, categories, and spending insights Crowcery produces are for your personal information only. Crowcery does not provide financial, budgeting, tax, or accounting advice, and nothing it shows you (including AI-generated insights) should be treated as a recommendation or as a substitute for professional advice.

3. Your account

4. Your responsibilities

By using Crowcery, you agree:

5. Intellectual property

You keep ownership of the receipt photos and data you upload. By uploading, you grant us a limited licence to process, store, and display that content back to you so the service works, and to display de-identified price observations (the item's name, price, purchase date as day only, optional quantity, and the store) derived from your receipt items to other Crowcery users of the same store. These observations carry no direct identifiers (no user identifier or receipt identifier) and are designed so they cannot reasonably be linked back to you or to your other purchases; see the Privacy Policy for details.

Product photos you contribute. Crowcery lets you contribute photos of products (for example, the front of a package, its ingredients, or its nutrition label) to build a shared product catalogue. If you contribute a product photo and our reviewers approve it, you grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence (sublicensable only to the service providers that host and operate Crowcery, as listed in the Privacy Policy) to host, store, reproduce, and process that photo, to modify it as necessary for technical operation (for example resizing, reformatting, compressing, caching, creating thumbnails, and backing it up), and to display the approved photo to other Crowcery users as the catalogue image for that product, for the purpose of operating the shared product catalogue. We review contributed photos before they are shown to anyone else, and approved photos are displayed with your account identity removed — other users see the product image, not who uploaded it. You can ask us to remove a photo you contributed at any time, and we will take it down along with the copies derived from it (Section 7).

Beyond the above, you grant us no other rights. In particular, we don't use your content to train AI models, and we don't share it outside Crowcery — we do not contribute your photos to any third-party or open database. If we ever offer that, it would be a separate, clearly-labelled, optional choice you would have to opt into; until then it does not happen. We share with service providers only as listed in the Privacy Policy.

6. Fees

Crowcery is currently free. If and when a paid subscription tier becomes available, the price and terms will be shown before you subscribe, and subscriptions will be handled by Google Play Billing under Google's terms. We will not start charging your existing account without explicit opt-in.

7. Service changes and termination

8. No warranty

The service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, availability, or non-infringement. Parsed data may contain errors. Don't rely on Crowcery as your system of record or as a source of financial or tax advice.

9. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Marton Hever is not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of data, profits, or revenue, arising out of or in connection with your use of the service. Our total aggregate liability for any claim relating to the service is limited to the greater of (a) CAD $10 or (b) the amount you paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim. Nothing in this section limits liability that cannot be limited under applicable law.

10. Indemnity

You agree to indemnify and hold us harmless from third-party claims arising out of your violation of these terms, your unlawful use of the service, or content you upload that infringes another person's rights, to the extent permitted by applicable law.

11. Force majeure

We are not responsible for delays or failures in the service caused by events beyond our reasonable control, including internet or cloud-provider outages, natural disasters, labour disputes, or government actions.

12. Privacy

Your use of the service is also governed by our Privacy Policy, which explains what we collect, why, where it's stored, and your rights.

13. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Nova Scotia and the federal laws of Canada applicable in that province. Any dispute arising out of or relating to these terms is subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Nova Scotia, Canada, except where mandatory consumer-protection laws in your jurisdiction say otherwise.

14. Notice and takedown (abuse, copyright, illegal content)

If you believe content on Crowcery infringes your rights, is illegal, or otherwise violates these terms (for example, a contributed product photo that uses someone else's copyrighted image, or a receipt that contains another person's private information), report it to abuse@crowcery.com. Tell us what the content is (enough detail for us to find it), why it is a problem, and how to reach you. We make commercially reasonable efforts to acknowledge valid reports within two business days, with expedited handling for reports of child exploitation, credible threats of violence, or an active privacy breach, and we act on valid reports without undue delay.

Copyright. Crowcery operates in Canada and follows the Notice-and-Notice regime (Copyright Act, sections 41.25 to 41.26): when we receive a compliant notice we forward it to the affected user as soon as feasible and let the complainant know it was forwarded. We do not reveal the affected user's identity to the complainant unless required by a court order or by law, and we retain records as required.

Illegal or harmful content and legal requests. We remove content that we determine to be illegal or that exposes another person's private information, and we respond to valid law-enforcement and legal requests. We take reasonable steps to verify the authenticity of a request before disclosing anything, and we disclose only what the request compels. Reports of child sexual abuse material are reported to the appropriate authorities (including Cybertip.ca) and law enforcement, the content is removed and the account suspended, and we do not investigate such material ourselves.

15. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. If the changes are material we will update the "last updated" date, and the app will ask you to review and accept the updated terms before you continue using the service (a blocking in-app notice; we record the version you accepted and when). Where appropriate we may also notify you by email. If you do not accept the updated terms, you can export your data and delete your account directly from the update notice, without accepting. We may change where our service providers process data over time (for example, moving processing to Canadian regions if equivalent processing becomes available there); the Privacy Policy is the authoritative source on where your data is processed at any given time.

16. Entire agreement

These terms constitute the entire agreement between you and us regarding the service, except as otherwise required by law. How we handle personal information is described in the Privacy Policy (see Section 12 of these terms).
